LBW Community College is preparing to host its annual SkillsUSA Fishing Tournament on Thursday, March 19, at the College’s MacArthur Campus pond in Opp, bringing together students, faculty, industry partners, and community supporters for a day of friendly competition and meaningful impact.
The tournament serves as a fundraiser supporting LBW Community College SkillsUSA students as they prepare to compete at the 2026 SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference and Championships, scheduled for April 20–22 in Birmingham. Funds raised will help offset student travel expenses and participation costs as they represent LBW and showcase their technical and leadership skills at the state and national levels.
SkillsUSA competitors participate in a wide range of career and technical contests, including automotive technology, industrial motor control, welding, job interview, public speaking, nail technology, cosmetology, and barbering. The organization emphasizes workforce readiness, professionalism, and leadership development, skills essential for success in today’s industries.
“Events like the fishing tournament allow our community to directly invest in student success,” said Denise Sauls, SkillsUSA advisor and cosmetology instructor at LBW Community College. “The support we receive helps provide students with opportunities to compete, grow professionally, and gain real-world experience that prepares them for their future careers.”
The annual fishing tournament aims to raise $5,000 to support SkillsUSA travel and competition expenses. Community members, local businesses, and supporters are encouraged to participate by sponsoring the event, helping promote the tournament, or joining attendees for lunch on the day of the event.
Available sponsorship levels include:
Gold Sponsor — $500
Includes company logo displayed on the tournament banner
Silver Sponsor — $250
Bronze Sponsor — $100
Friends and Family Sponsor — $50
Sponsors play a vital role in helping students access leadership development opportunities while strengthening partnerships between education and industry throughout the region.
