LBW Names Natalie Erwin as New Softball Coach

July 28, 2025

LBW Community College is excited to welcome Natalie Erwin as the new head coach of the Saints softball program. A former NCAA Division I standout and NJCAA national champion, Erwin brings a strong background in both player development and program success to LBW.

“I want to thank Dr. Kelley and the rest of the hiring committee for this wonderful opportunity to lead the Lurleen B. Wallace softball team,” Erwin said. “From our first interaction, I knew that there were amazing things about to happen at LBW. I am excited to be a small part of something much bigger than myself.”

Originally from Ridgeland, Mississippi, Erwin was a four-year starter at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2016–2020), where she earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology. She finished her collegiate career ranked in the top 10 in UAB program history in multiple categories, including career home runs (17), stolen bases (36), slugging percentage (.458), assists (280), and stolen base percentage (.900). Erwin was named to the Conference USA First Team as a sophomore and earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Third Team All-Region honors.

Her coaching career began as a graduate assistant at the University of West Florida, where she also earned a master’s degree in physical education and sports performance. She then joined the staff at Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC), where she helped guide the team to the 2025 NJCAA Division I National Championship. During her time at NWFSC, Erwin was part of the 2024 and 2025 NFCA Coaching Staffs of the Year, as well as the 2025 NJCAA Coaching Staff of the Year.

Throughout her coaching career, Erwin has played a key role in developing NJCAA and NFCA All-Americans and numerous All-Panhandle Conference players.

“Coach Erwin is a dynamic addition to the LBW coaching staff,” said Steve Helms, LBW athletic director. “She understands what it takes to build a successful program and is equally committed to helping our student-athletes grow as competitors, teammates and people. We look forward to what’s ahead for Saints Softball.”

“A good coach can change a game, but a great coach can change a life,” said Erwin. “I have been blessed to have coaches that made a positive impact on my life, and I look to do the same for these young women at LBW. I also want to thank my family for always being in my corner for every decision I have made in my career. Go Saints!”
