Helms named Acting President of LBWCC

Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker announced the appointment of Bryan Helms as Acting President of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. Helms will serve in the role until a president is named at the completion of the presidential search currently being conducted at the college.
Helms has more than 18 years of higher education administration experience and currently serves as the Vice Chancellor for Administrative and Financial Services for the Alabama Community College System. Prior to his role at the ACCS, Helms served as the Vice President of Financial and Administrative Services at Calhoun Community College.
“Mr. Helms is a dedicated leader who through his work at both the System Office and our colleges has proven time and time again his commitment to our students and our communities,” Baker said. “At this time of transition for LBW, I’m confident that Bryan brings the skillset needed to guide the students, faculty, staff, and administration of the college.”
Helms began his career in the private sector where he served for more than 20 years in various accounting and financial leadership roles. He began his higher education career at Troy University. Helms earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Troy University and a Master of Business Administration with an Emphasis in Information Systems from Auburn University, Montgomery. Helms is also a licensed CPA.
“As a native of the Wiregrass, it is an honor and privilege to serve the Andalusia, Opp, Greenville, and Luverne communities in this capacity,” Helms said. “I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, and administration at LBW to continue their important work in advancing the lives of their students and the communities they serve.”
Helms’ tenure at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College will begin on Tuesday, September 3.
