Each year, LBW awards scholarships to both incoming freshmen and current students in various areas, such as academics, athletics, performing arts, and service. In addition to the scholarships directly offered by the college, funding through the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Foundation is also available. Below, you will find a brief overview of each scholarship, the award amounts, and the eligibility criteria for selection and renewal. Please note the following:
The deadline to apply for the 2025-2026 Traditional Student Scholarships is March 1, 2025, by 5:00 pm.
Description: Ambassadors serve as the official hosts and hostesses for LBW Community College.
Minimum GPA and Enrollment Requirement: Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 90 average. All others must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered.
Length and Value: Two-semester scholarship that will cover tuition and fees up to $3,500 (up to $1,750 Fall 2025 semester and up to $1,750 Spring 2026 semester), as long as the student is enrolled in and maintains a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester. Only in approved academic circumstances will scholarships be awarded to students taking less than 12 credit hours, and the scholarship award amount will be prorated. A partial scholarship may be available to take summer classes.
Continuation Policy: This scholarship is renewable for a second year for students who successfully complete 24 credit hours with a 2.5 GPA and faithfully complete all duties assigned to Ambassadors. Returning Ambassadors must complete a new Tradtional Student Scholarship Application inorder to reapply for a second year of service.
Additional Requirements: The applicant must submit a completed application form and two letters of reference. A high school senior must submit at least one of the two reference letters written by his or her high school principal or guidance counselor. The letter from the school official should indicate the student’s grade average and ACT scores. Applicants must submit an essay of no fewer than 250 words answering this question: “What are three characteristics that LBW Ambassadors should possess?” Selected applicants will be invited to participate in an interview with the selection committee.

Description: The Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of providing student scholarships and supporting college programs. LBWCC Foundation scholarships are available to students on all campuses.
Minimum GPA and Enrollment Requirements: Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 75 average. All others must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. This GPA must be verified by the high school transcript or college transcript.
Length and Value: One-year scholarships (in various amounts) for tuition and fees to be divided equally between fall and spring semesters.
Continuation Policy: Students must reapply each year.
Additional Requirements: Scholarship recipients will be required to write thank-you letters to foundation donors. Some LBWCC Foundation Scholarships are based on financial need. To be considered for those scholarships, students should explain any circumstances that demonstrate a special financial need for assistance with their college expenses.

Description: Each year, students will be accepted into LBW’s Honors Program, located on the Andalusia Campus, for students pursuing an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree.
Minimum Score Requirements: Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 90 average to be considered. Applicants must have an ACT composite score of 22 or higher. ACT superscores are accepted, and ACT score verification must include the student’s name.
Length and Value: Two-semester scholarship that will cover tuition and fees up to $4,500 (up to $2,250 fall semester and up to $2,250 spring semester) if the student is enrolled in and maintains a minimum of 13 credit hours each semester. Only in approved academic circumstances will scholarships be awarded to students taking fewer than 13 credit hours, and the scholarship award amount will be prorated.
Continuation Policy: This scholarship is renewable for a second year for students who complete 26 credit hours, including honors courses, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.250.
Additional Requirements: The Honors Program Scholarship selection process includes two phases:
Phase One: Scholarship Application: Before the scholarship deadline, applicants must submit the LBW Traditional Student Scholarship Application, ACT score verification, current high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation. Teachers, counselors, principals, community leaders, or employers can write recommendation letters.
Phase Two: On-Campus Interview and Writing Assessment: After reviewing applications submitted in Phase One, the Honors Program Committee will select and notify students to campus for essay and interview.

Description: The LBW Mascot, Blue, is the official host for LBW Community College activities and public events in the college’s service area. This position is a privilege and a scholarship and should not be taken lightly. Be prepared to incorporate Blue’s schedule into your class and work calendar for campus and community events and athletic events. Please consider this carefully before applying.

Additional Requirements: The applicant must attend a tryout in March, which consists of a brief interview with the judging panel and a one-minute skit that can incorporate music and/or props. Applicants will be judged based on creativity, crowd appeal, appropriateness of the skit, and portrayal of the character.

Description: Performing Arts – Art Scholarships are awarded to students who perform above and beyond the requirements normally expected of art students.
Minimum GPA and Enrollment Requirement: Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 75 average. All others must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. An art studio class on the Andalusia campus is required during both semesters while on this scholarship. Students must exhibit finished artwork in the annual LBW Student Art Exhibition.
Length and Value: Two-semester scholarship that will cover tuition and fees up to $3,800 (up to $1,900 Fall semester and up to $1,900 Spring semester) as long as the student is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. In approved academic circumstances, scholarships will be awarded to students taking less than 12 credit hours, and the scholarship award amount will be prorated.
Continuation Policy: For scholarships to be renewed, the student must complete 24 semester hours and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 by the end of 12 months to be considered for the second year. Scholarship recipients must also complete and submit a portfolio of artwork completed during the first year to the art instructor for review.
Additional Requirements: A Portfolio containing a minimum of six pieces and a maximum of eight pieces of art work and an official Portfolio Submission Form are required. Description: Performing Arts – Drama Scholarships are awarded to students interested in drama/performing arts.
Minimum GPA and Enrollment Requirement: Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 75 average. All others must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. An acting class on the Andalusia campus is required each semester while on this scholarship. Students accepted into the drama program must participate in all drama performance activities, including hours beyond the classroom experience.
Length and Value: Two-semester scholarship that will cover tuition and fees up to $3,800 (up to $1,900 Fall semester and up to $1,900 Spring semester) as long as the student is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours. In approved academic circumstances, scholarships will be awarded to students taking less than 12 credit hours, and the scholarship award amount will be prorated.
Continuation Policy: The faculty sponsor determines scholarship renewal. To be considered for the second year, the student must complete 24 semester hours and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 by the end of 12 months.
Additional Requirements: An interview must be arranged with a faculty sponsor. Interviews will be conducted between January 1 and March 14, 2025.

Description: Performing Arts – Music Scholarships are awarded annually based on musical ability, integrity, and leadership to students who perform over and above those requirements normally expected for an Ensemble student. Interested students must audition on March 17, 2025, or March 18, 2025. Only in extreme circumstances will an audition be granted on another date.
Minimum GPA and Enrollment Requirement: Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 75 average. All others must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. Scholarship recipients must enroll in an Ensemble class each semester while on scholarship.
Length and Value: This is a two-semester scholarship that will cover tuition and fees up to $3,800 (up to $1,900 for the Fall semester and up to $1,900 for the Spring semester) if the student enrolls in a minimum of 12 credit hours. Only in approved academic circumstances will scholarships be awarded to students taking less than 12 credit hours, and the scholarship award amount will be prorated.
Continuation Policy: The director has the discretion to renew the scholarship. To be considered for the second year, first-year members must successfully complete 24 semester hours and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.25 by the end of the spring semester.

Minimum GPA and Enrollment Requirement: Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 80 average. All others must have a minimum 2.5 GPA. To be considered, a student must also indicate a desire to enroll in a technical program.
