The Lurleen B. Wallace Community College Experience
Once a student is accepted to LBWCC, they will be invited to attend the LBW Community College Experience. Attending the LBW Community College Experience is a required part of a student’s academic career at LBWCC This event is designed to give each student a "jump start" in obtaining information about the programs and services at LBWCC. During these sessions, students will also have the opportunity to meet other new students who will be starting classes during the same semester. Our LBWCC Experience program is twofold; it is a half-day orientation for new students on our college campus, as well as an online orientation course. This course is a one-credit-hour transferable course that will be completed online, following the students half-day on-campus session.
During the on-campus LBWCC Experience session, students will
-
acquire a better understanding of how college works
-
have questions answered from LBWCC faculty and staff
-
get acquainted with new classmates
-
tour the college campus and see where classes will be located
|
Within the online course component, students will
-
explore the LBWCC Catalog and Student Handbook
-
connect to the LBWCC community
-
better comprehend your personal learning style and study skills
-
enhance your budgeting and financial planning skills
-
obtain a STARS Transfer Guide and career information

Spring and Summer Semester LBWCC Experience sessions are usually held the Friday after registration is completed at the beginning of each semester. Since Fall Semesters have the largest number of incoming students, we hold LBWCC Experience sessions beginning in July and end them in August before Fall Semester classes begin. For Fall Semesters, we also have a “late” session for those students who wait until regular registration to register for Fall Semester classes. Those “late” sessions are held after registration has ended to ensure all students have the opportunity to attend an LBWCC Experience session.
We have high expectations for our students during this important first year. Realizing that many students have questions and concerns about beginning college, our plan is to share the vital information that will help them understand those expectations and enable them to set realistic goals. We feel confident that a student’s participation in this LBWCC Experience Orientation Program will help develop a sense of being a part of LBW Community College and will contribute to their success!
