Office Administration


Program Description

The program is designed for the purpose of preparing students to keep the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other health practitioners running smoothly.  Students learn to update and file patients' medical records, fill out insurance forms, arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services, answering telephones, greeting patients, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, and handling billing and bookkeeping.  Work habits and attitude, as well as the ability to communicate effectively, are an integral part of the program.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, executive secretaries and administrative assistants median annual salary for 2012 was $35,330.


Job Opportunities

Numerous job openings will result from the need to replace workers who leave this very large occupation each year.  Opportunities should be best for applicants with extensive knowledge of software applications. Employment for medical secretaries is projected to grow up to 36 percent or more through 2022.
