Culinary Arts (Two-Semesters)

 

Program Description:

This short certificate program provides instruction in food safety, nutrition, and food preparation.  Students gain hands-on experience in preparing, seasoning, and cooking a variety of foods.
 

Admission Requirements:

High School diploma or GED

Orientation to Hospitality Profession
Sanitation, Safety, and Food Service
Food Preparation
Stocks and Sauces
Food Purchasing and Cost Control
Foundations of Nutrition
Advanced Food Preparation
Basic Culinary Lab I
Preparing and Processing Meat
Foundations of Baking

 

Estimated Salary & Job Opportunities:

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, the median hourly pay for chefs and head cooks in 2012 was $20.42.  Employment for chefs and head cooks is projected to grow at 5% through 2022.
