Academics

Report of Credit Hours offered per location and through Distance Education

Associate in Arts (A.A.) or Associate in Science (A.S.) degrees are designed for students who plan to attend a senior institution for further study, but they are also suitable for anyone wishing to continue their academic education beyond the high school level. The degrees are offered in any of several academic concentrations. Also, an Associate in Applied Science Degree (A.A.S.) may be obtained in one of eighteen occupational programs.

Students planning to transfer to a public senior institution in the State of Alabama should obtain and follow a transfer guide, which is available from the Articulation and General Studies Committee's STARS web site.

Athens State University partners with community colleges throughout Alabama and is the only institution included in the Alabama Community College System which provides the final two years of a bachelor's degree. This option provides students a more economical alternative to complete a bachelor's degree and several degree programs are offered online. For more information, click here.

Distance Education
Today, technology has changed such that it allows learners to receive an education anytime, anywhere, through technology media such as the internet, televised instruction and video. Most on-line courses are offered via asynchronous communication which basically means that the information is not offered at the same time the student is trying to access it, nor are other learners accessing it at the same time. We offer four distance education course formats: Hybrid, On-line, Telecourse, and CD/DVD.

Tech Prep
Tech Prep is a federally-funded grant project at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College. The Tech Prep Program endeavors to provide technical career information to high school students through career events/outings, career testing, interactive computer presentations, and technical training seminars for area teachers.
