GED, then scholarship

A recent graduate of the Adult Education Program at LBW Community College was one of nine people statewide to receive a scholarship by the Alabama Association for Public and Continuing Adult Education (ALAPCAE).

Tammy Jeffery of Opp was awarded the Pete Turnham Scholarship, named for the 40-year member of the Alabama House of Representatives and ardent supporter of adult education.

She was recognized for her accomplishments among more than 600 adult educators at the recent awards luncheon in Montgomery. She is now enrolled as a student in LBWCC’s Honors Program as a non-traditional student and is pursuing a degree in social work.

“We are very proud of this student’s achievement in obtaining her GED, being recognized for her accomplishments through this scholarship, and her involvement in our Honors Program,” said LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel.

LBWCC offers free adult education and GED preparation classes in Andalusia, 334-881-2267; Florala, 334-858-4100; Greenville, 334-383-6720; Luverne, 334-335-2187; and Opp, 334-593-5310.
