Curry named 2014 Outstanding Alumna

4/16/2014

LBW Community College will recognize Jennifer Carroll Curry of Andalusia as the 2014 Outstanding Alumna during the College’s commencement ceremony in May.

“We are thrilled to recognize Ms. Curry for her many accomplishments and commitment to serve her community and LBW,” said LBWCC President Dr. Herb Riedel.

Curry completed an Associate Degree at LBWCC in 1997 and transferred to Auburn University where she completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance in 1999. In addition, she received a Master of Science Degree in Management from Faulkner University in 2001, and a banking degree from the University of South Alabama in 2004. She currently serves as vice-president of lending at CCB Community Bank in Andalusia.

“I feel extremely honored to be nominated and selected for this award,” said Curry. “I have lived in Andalusia all my life and know several outstanding individuals that have had the same privilege to attend LBWCC. I truly believe in its value and will continue to support and promote LBW to the best of my ability.”

Her commitment to LBW was evident in the years she served on the LBWCC Foundation as a board member and past-president. The Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the College through scholarships and other projects.

“When I was approached about serving on the LBWCC Foundation, I didn’t even have to think about it. I’ve always thought highly of the College’s faculty, administration, and its programs. It set the foundation for my career and prepared me to further my education.”

During her tenure with the Foundation, she helped raise more than $87,000 through various projects, and assisted in obtaining sponsorship of her bank for the annual “College that Cares” internal fund raiser.

As president of the Foundation, she led the board in planning, financing, and constructing Saints Hall student apartments adjacent to the Andalusia campus. The College was subsequently selected as one of 10 category finalists for the national Bellwether Award for the collaborative effort with the Foundation and other entities.

Her commitment to service extends even further into the community through various volunteer activities. While working in Evergreen, she served as team leader for the Conecuh County Relay for Life and was a member of the Conecuh County Rotary Club. She is a member of the Andalusia Kiwanis Club and a past-president and member of the Junior Service League of Andalusia. She is also a current board member with the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce.

“My whole family lives in Andalusia and my kids will grow up here, so it is important to me to volunteer in the community to help strengthen it,” said Curry. “I know I may only be one person, but I believe every person counts and can make a difference.”

Curry will be recognized at the LBWCC graduation set for 7 p.m. on May 9, 2014, at the Kiwanis Community Center in Andalusia.
