ACMS Concert: Three Violin Sonatas
Brahms musical event planned
The Andalusia Chamber Music Society’s Spring Concert, “Johannes Brahms: Three Violin Sonatas,” will be held on April 4, 2014, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church on East Three Notch Street in Andalusia, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
“It will be a lovely evening of romantic music by Brahms in a beautiful setting followed by a reception with the musicians in the fellowship hall,” said Dr. Herb Riedel, ACMS co-founder.
The recital features Jenny Grégoire on violin and Dr. Robert Holm on piano.
Grégoire, born in Québec, Canada, rose to concertmaster of the Mobile Symphony 13 years ago and was first featured as a soloist with the orchestra in 2002. She started violin at the age of 5, and a year later was admitted in the pre-college division of the Québec Music Conservatoire where she studied and earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in violin performance and a minor in chamber music.
She also serves as concertmaster of the Tuscaloosa and Meridian Symphony Orchestras, has performed at Carnegie Hall, and has recorded under the Summit Records label.
Holm is Professor of Music and head of the piano division at the University of South Alabama since 1997. He earned an undergraduate degree in piano performance at Pt. Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Calif., followed by studies at the University of Illinois School of Music and earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature in 1999.
He was added to the roster of Steinway Artists in 2010, has performed in solo recitals throughout the country, and his participation in several international competitions have earned him semi-finalist and finalist positions. He has released several CDs featuring sonatas, two-piano music, rags, sacred hymn arrangements, and original Christmas music.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students, and are available at LBW Community College president’s office in Andalusia, Harold’s Furniture, and Brooks Hardware.
